Culture and history

Brissago preserves a significant cultural heritage. Among the most precious testimonies we find the churches of the SS. Pietro e Paolo and Madonna di Ponte, made with local stone and both works by architects Pietro and Giovanni Beretta. Another important religious testimony is the Sacro Monte, with its chapels of the Via Crucis and the Church of Our Lady of Sorrows, which represent valuable works of the eighteenth century.

Among the historic buildings, the Branca-Baccalà Palace stands out, a patrician residence that rises in the historic nucleus of Brissago, testifying to the opulence of this village in the 17th century and the recently restored 19th-century aqueduct ‘I Canalitt’, which winds through the living rock near the Brissago mountains, in Cortaccio.
