A Christmas of sharing

Here are the main events on the calendar proposed for the holidays by the Culture and Tourism Commission.

Fewer events, but great attention to quality. The programme drawn up by the Brissago Culture and Tourism Commission for the Christmas holidays can be summed up in these words.

“I believe that the most important concept linking the events of this year – says the municipal Veronica Marcacci Rossi, coordinator of the Commission – is that of sharing. We know that Christmas has a strong connotation of closeness, especially in small communities like ours. So we decided to emphasize sharing, creating Christmas decorations together with the realities present in the area: the Municipal Schools, Casa San Giorgio and the Miralago and La Motta institutes. The Parents’ Assembly also took part in this project, which brought light and imagination to the villages”.

The saplings have been laid and decorated in recent days, while the Square will light up, as usual, tomorrow, Friday 1 December: at 5 p.m. the tree will be lit, with an aperitif offered to the population. No houses, though. We needed a year off. But on Wednesday 6 December, at 4.30 p.m., there will be a traditional snack for young and old with the inevitable arrival in Piazza di San Nicolao.

Let's look at the calendar until Saturday 16 December, with the Christmas market, scheduled between 11 and 18, which this year promises to be full of proposals: There will be about sixty stalls of exhibitors between Piazza Municipio and Piazzetta Bellani. “A record number – comments Veronica Marcacci Rossi –. It will be a weekend to live, always full of sharing and joy, with a snack offered to all children at 3 pm, during the Saturday market, and half an hour later, the Christmas stories told by the storyteller Andrea Jacot Descombes. The next day, Sunday 17th, will be the time of the Christmas concert with the Calicantus Choir. A group that is a guarantee of musical quality. Proceeds from the concert will be donated to the Alessia Foundation’.

Day after day, Christmas is approaching and events continue with the aperitif on Friday 22 December, to which the whole population is invited.

Other planned initiatives include the screening of a film for families during the Christmas period. In the meantime, concludes the coordinator of the Commission for Culture and Tourism, "we are already looking to the new year. The 2024 calendar of events is being drawn up, the agenda shared with Ronco sopra Ascona will be published at the beginning of February, and we have big plans for the Feast of Fireworks, which next year will be super!”
