The Brissago Islands are listed in the Swiss Federal Inventory of Settlements to be Protected (ISOS) as a settlement of national importance. ISOS, managed by the Confederation, has over a thousand settlements. By identifying the most valuable settlements in Switzerland, it not only makes an important contribution to maintaining Swiss urban culture, but is also a source of numerous secret tips of tourist relevance. With the support of the Federal Office of Culture (FOC), Switzerland Tourism has therefore selected 30 interesting tourist settlements for the ‘30 Surprising Places in Switzerland – Discover Switzerland You Don’t Expect!’ campaign, including the Brissago Islands. These new settlements are part of the ongoing "Love of Place" campaign, launched in 2020.
The Brissago Islands, as part of the campaign, are now presenting themselves to Switzerland and abroad in their best light with a portrait of images and texts available on the website in multiple languages MySwitzerland.com/ISOS. In addition, portraits of all 30 ISOS settlements are also available in paper format. The mini tour guide "30 Surprising Places" of Switzerland Tourism and Transhelvetica presents and pays homage to all settlements. The guide will be available in German and French from May 2024.
